Manual

I read a lot on the computer, but it's nice to read something on paper too. Is there a place to buy a hard copy of the manual, preferably in a way which will support the developer? If not, I can always print out a copy or keep reading on my computer, but in that case is there another way to support the developer?

There is currently no book about Giac that you could buy and would bring some money for Giac development. The best way to support Giac development right now is probably to find people improving the English documentation, it is unfortunately much less complete than the French documentation.

Well, then, I can work on the documentation.
The website has it available in html and pdf. I can work on some diffs to the html, unless there's a better way.

Don't modify the HTML, instead modify the source, it is written in LaTeX, it is available in the source tarball of giac, in the doc/en subdirectory, filename cascmd_en.tex. It is compiled to HTML with hevea and to PDF with pdflatex.

I thought I'd check to see if my diff file made it to Dr. Parisse.

Also, when you said improve the English documentation, did you have anything specific in mind?

The first priority would be to complete the English user manual (the French manual cascmd_fr.tex is more complete). But any contribution in English would be very appreciated, for example Xcas illustrations, worksheets or short guides for a math course, or an interactive online course using giac (https://www-fourier.ujf-grenoble.fr/~pa ... astex.html)

Okay; I'll start by comparing the French and English manuals to see what is missing.

Meanwhile, there is a patch to cascmd_en.tex (from giac-unstable) which translates some words which hadn't been translated yet and fixes some other minor typos. It is here, I tried attaching it, but the "Upload attachment" wouldn't let me attach anything.) It is a smaller version of something I sent to your email address, but I think maybe it didn't get to you.

I got your mail from August 30th, I incorporated your changes on August 31th and emailed you. Perhaps you did not receive my response? I hope your patch is the same, because I incorporated additions by Luka Marohnic in cascmd_en.tex.
BTW, if you want to attach a file, I think you must put it in a zip file.
